Pattern Designer Info
My name is Vanessa Coscarelli Black and I’m a wife, mom, animal lover and knitwear designer residing in New Jersey. I come from a long line of various makers — tailors, shoemakers, chefs, painters, contractors. Most everyone in my family has some sort of skill that requires their hands (and I think that’s pretty great)! I started my career in finance and while I learned a ton during my time in the corporate environment, I knew that long term, it was not the right career path for me. With 20+ years of knitting/crochet experience under my belt, I slowly transitioned my hobby into my small business and never looked back.

Unflattering pattern

This is a cute looking pattern, but I did not care for how it turned out. I had a hard time getting gauge. I used I’ve tutorials by Knifty Knitting for the tubular cast on. The links in the pattern weren’t very helpful. I struggled to get the Italian sewn BO. Again, I used a different video tutorial than the one the pattern suggested.
The bottom band is done with the larger needle, which looks weird with the tighter stockinette. The first time I made the vest, I did a medium and added length, because I did not want it cropped. It came out too wide. The shoulder straps were very short. I had a very hard time trying to pick up the stitches and reached out to the designer, who helped me break down the arrangement. To seam the shoulders with 3 needle BO, the pattern indicated to put your needle points facing right. But if you follow this for the left (I can’t remember if right or left was first), your seams don’t have the same look. To get the same look, you have to turn your garment to that the back is in the front. The ribbing around the armholes is done on smaller needles and is only 4 rows, then Italian BO. It just doesn’t look right. Thick bottom ribbing and super tiny, short armhole ribbing.
So I wound up ripping they whole thing out AND knitting a size small and not adding body length, in other words, following the pattern to a T. Now my garment was definitely too small. By the time I got to the straps, I abandoned ship and ripped it out.
I’m repurposing the yarn.
Disappointed.

Beautiful drape

I’m about 1/3 of the way into my Tweedy Pullover, and I must say that the yarn is so soft, and easy to work with.

Win!

This is my first "big" project and, after struggling for about a week with the cast on (I've never done a tubular cast on. Ever lol), once I got it it's been smooth sailing (so far lol). Little intimidated by the panel section, not gonna lie, but I'll baby step that part...fingers crossed (it seems pretty straightforward. )
