14 sts + 15 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern stitch. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Crochet Baby Blankie Reviewed by j.l. stewart on 2014-05-15 *****
Too cute! Made this for my daughter's teacher who is expecting in the Fall. They aren't finding out the sex of the baby, so I used a yellow and mint green. It turned out looking like a flower. It went together quickly and was easy to do. Fun project for beginners or someone wanting something quick and uncomplicated while watching t.v. You could expand the size and make a really cute lap blanket for an elderly person too.
