Crochet Sea Creature: Anglerfish

Anglerfish

Real anglerfish possess oversized jaws, intimidating teeth, and a ligh tproducing "lure" that draws prey toward their mouths. This version substitutes lace for the fangs and a pom-pom for the luminescent organ.

Making up
Using lime green yarn, make a small pom-pom by wrapping yarn around your finger approximately 20 times. Thread a piece of the same yarn through the hole and tie off tightly, trim the pom-pom to shape, and use the ends of the yarn you tied to secure the pompom inside the cup at the end of the filament. Attach the fins with your yarn needle and dark green yarn. Attach eyes according to package directions. Using your sewing needle and black thread, sew lace along the inside edge of the mouth. Cut two pieces of black felt about 5 1/2 x 3 in (14 x 7.5 cm), and, positioning the long edge along the inside of the mouth, sew it in place in much the same way as you attached the lace. You don't need to sew the felt elsewhere; just tuck the remainder into the body of the fish to give it body and a finished appearance.

The dotted lines mean repeat the previous round 10 times.
