Crochet Floral Block: Crocus

This generic pattern can be used with whatever yarn and hook/needle size you prefer.

Skill level: intermediate
Method of working: diagonally in rows

Special abbreviation
2 ldc (2 linked dc): * yrh, insert hook in same ch sp as last st and pull through a loop, * rep from * to * in next ch sp, (5 loops on hook), yrh, pull through 4 loops, yrh, pull through 2 loops.

 

Yarn: yellow-green (A), green (B), white (C)

METHOD
Using A, make 59 ch.
Row 1: 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each of 24 ch, 2 dc tog over [next and foll 4th ch], 1 dc in each of rem 26 ch. 27 sts on each of 2 sides.
Row 2: 3 ch, sk first dc, 1 dc in each of 23 dc, 2 dc tog over [next and foll 4th st], 1 dc in each of 23 dc, 1 dc in 3rd of 3 ch. 25 sts on each side.
Row 3: 3 ch, sk first dc, * sk next 2 dc, [1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc] in next dc, sk 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc, * rep from * to * twice more, sk 2 dc, [1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc] in next dc, 2 dc tog over [next and foll 4th st], [1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc] in next dc, sk 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc, rep from * to * 3 times, working final dc in 3rd of 3 ch.
Row 4: 3 ch, sk first dc, 1 dc in each dc and ch sp to center 5 sts, 2 dc tog over [next and foll 4th st], 1 dc in each dc and ch sp ending 1 dc in 3rd of 3 ch. 21 sts on each side. Fasten off A. Join B to same place.
Row 5: 4 ch, sk first dc, * sk next 2 dc, [1 tr, 3 ch, ss, 3 ch, 1 tr] in next dc, sk 2 dc, 1 tr in next dc, * rep from * to * once more, sk 2 dc, [1 tr, 3 ch, ss,] in next dc, 3 ch, 4 tr tog over [same dc, and foll 3rd, 7th, and 10th dc], 3 ch, [ss, 3 ch, 1 tr] in same place as last  insertion, sk 2 dc, 1 tr in next dc, rep from * to * twice more, working final tr in 3rd of 3 ch.
Fasten off B. Join C to same place.
Row 6: 2 ch, sk [2 tr, 3 ch], * [2 tr tog, 2 ch, 2 tr tog] in next ss, 3 ch, sk [3 ch, 3 tr, 3 ch], * rep from * to * once more, [2 tr tog, 2 ch, 2 tr tog] in next ss, sk 3 tr, rep from * to * twice more, [2 tr tog, 2 ch, 2 tr tog] in next ss, 1 ch, sk [3 ch, 1 tr], 1 sc in 4th of 4 ch. 3 flowers on each side.
Fasten off C. Join A to same place.
Row 7: 3 ch, 1 dc in first ch sp, 2 ldc, * 1 dc in same 2-ch sp, 2 ldc, 3 dc in center tr of 3 of row 5 below, * 2 ldc, 1 dc in same 2-ch sp, 2 ldc, 3 dc in center tr of 3 of row 5 below, work foll 5 sts tog: [2 ldc, 1 dc in same ch sp, 1 tr between 2 flowers at corner, 1 dc in next ch sp and 2 ldc], 3 dc in center tr of 3 of row 5 below, 2 ldc, rep from * to * once more, 2 ldc, 1 dc in same ch sp, 2 ldc, 2 dc in last tr of row 5 below.
Row 8: 3 ch, sk first dc, 1 dc in each dc to center 5 sts, 2 dc tog over [next and foll 4th st], 1 dc in each dc, ending 1 dc in 3rd of 3 ch. 13 sts on each side.
Rows 9–13: As row 8. 3 sts on each side.
Row 14: 2 ch, sk 4 sts, 1 dc in 3rd of 3 ch. Fasten off A.
